Before you get to the point of having only the most necessary and from then on to live more minimally, you are faced with the great task of getting rid of all the things that do not make you happy, or even never did.
This may be a lengthy process, depending on the previous attitude to consumption and the earlier relationship to material things. To my own surprise, I must confess that in the past I have bought a lot of thoughtlessly. When I look closely at things in retrospect, I wonder why I wanted them. But it is not so simple with every object. I bought some things only for styling, and the idea of using things again for later work is difficult to overcome.
Since I am still at the beginning of this process, I do not want to go into it yet, but as soon as I have gained more experience in this field and if I have a kind of application pattern, I will of course be part of it.
Today I would like to give you a few suggestions on what can happen to the things, when you have decided to let them go. If you still know the possibilities, which I have forgotten, or did not even know, your ideas are of course welcome.
On Instagram, I have often noticed that some people “muck out” with “throw away” and then write quite horrified comments when one writes that books have been sorted out. At the same time, the reduction of ownership does not really have anything to do with throwing away. There are a lot of possibilities. The throwing away is on my list at the end, because I do not want to pull a rubbish track behind me on my way to less possessions.
The easiest way to get rid of things is to give them away. It is worth to ask simply in the circle of acquaintances, whether someone can use discarded furniture, be it only for the basement or the garage. In this way some of our furniture has already found a new home.
Also on ebay classifieds, furniture and small items can easily be given away, we also have many things here, which we have received as gifts. However, you have to arrange appointments and accept that some prospective customers do not show up in the end. If you want to spare yourself, you can also ask the next Charitas office if they pick up the things. Small things can of course also be brought by yourself. In many places, there are social buyers who like to receive donations in kind and sell them cheaply to people with low incomes. Just look at the Internet for offers in your area.
There is, of course, also the possibility to simply put things on the street, which I often do. However, I am annoying lately more and more about the behavior of the people. For example, all things are simply poured out, just because someone wants to take the basket with them. This has annoyed me recently, because I then had to collect the scattered things, partially broken. That is why I will not do this in the future.
Books can easily be stored in public bookshelves. I have set up one of our own books. In addition, there is a book club, the “Lions Club” once a year a huge bazaar with book donations and the proceeds for a good cause.
Previously, the only way to get goods that you could not make is the exchange is nowadays rather unusual. It makes sense, of course, only if you actually need something else and you find someone who has just to offer it. With ebay classifieds I often see offers, where against food or other consumer goods can be exchanged.
A nice way to exchange clothes are exchange parties. You can easily organize them yourself in the circle of friends and get rid of clothes that you do not wear anymore and in return you get something you just need. Of course you should not lose sight of the goal of having less in the end
